The technology that we use every day can bridge that distance and make it easier for you to communicate and form the bonds that will define the way you work together. Make sure that you both work with the same tools to maximize efficiency. Especially during the earlier stages, you need to choose your clients carefully. Don’t make the mistake of assuming that something that works for one type of client will work for another. If you’re writing to them because you want to provide them with some sort of solution, identify what problems they might be facing and explain how you can help.

So back in the year 2000, I registered on many of these online freelance marketplaces and over the years worked on hundreds of projects. The world recession has left many jobless and a great part of these jobless people have turned to freelance as the alternative career option. This makes the field a lot more challenging for a newcomer. Thanks mostly to social media, personal branding has become akin to building a miniature business. Personal brands are the key to generating more visibility as a freelancer, and because personal branding has such potential, freelancing is becoming more diversified and more approachable. Old models of freelancing were pretty straightforward; you’d develop loose relationships with a number of different organizations, or be “on call” for short-term assignments.
